“We are a small, family-owned funeral directors — and we treat every family who comes to us as our own.”

Gary & the Burdett team

Our Family

A life spent looking after people.

“I wanted to care for families my own way — personally, patiently, and without compromise.”

Before he found his true calling, Gary spent his early career as an outdoor instructor — guiding people through mountaineering, caving, climbing and expeditions across wild places. Looking after others in difficult moments has always been in his nature.

At 27 he knew his path lay in funeral care. After more than a decade learning the profession and gaining his qualifications in Funeral Directing & Management, he founded G. Burdett Funeral Services so he could do exactly that.

Gary holds a Diploma in Grief & Bereavement Counselling and is a qualified Reiki practitioner. Alongside him, Janice Wooding brings the same warmth and dedication — together offering not just a service, but genuine support.

What Happens Next

When a loved one dies, take a breath. We’ll guide you.

Arranging a funeral isn’t something most of us ever do more than once or twice. There’s no need to know the steps — simply call us, and we’ll walk beside you through each one.

1

The medical certificate

A doctor or medical examiner establishes the cause of death and completes the Medical Certificate (MCCD), discussing it with you before it goes to the Registrar.

2

Register the death

Make an appointment with the registrar for the area where your loved one passed. The next of kin, a relative, or someone present can register.

3

Meet the registrar

Take the details of the deceased — full name, dates and place of birth and death, address and occupation. You’ll receive the Green Certificate we need, plus official death certificates.

4

Leave the rest to us

From here, we take care of everything — and if the Coroner is involved, we’ll liaise with them on your behalf so you don’t have to.

Unsure of anything at all? There is never a wrong time to call — day or night.
